“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.”

Plutarch

The Latin School provides a classical education, in the Catholic tradition, for students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.  Our proven curriculum and pedagogical methods ensure a seamless transition from grammar school to the rigors of college preparatory course work.  The studies have been designed to promote academic excellence and to form the child in the development of virtues.

High School at Veritas focuses on the humanities, science and mathematics, Latin, and the fine arts.  Students experience the best of what is written, thought, and spoken – that which has endured across cultures and centuries.  The rigor of the classical curriculum and the use of the Socratic method enables students to use their mental faculties to grapple with deep philosophical questions, to solve complicated mathematical problems, and to write compelling essays.  Ultimately, the course work is designed to inspire students to pursue truth, beauty, and goodness as a lifelong activity.

Our education at Veritas prepares our students to excel at college.  Hence our graduating students have received acceptances and scholarship money from numerous universities, including Virginia Tech, Christopher Newport University, the College of William & Mary, and Virginia Commonwealth University.

For students to be competitive in the college application process, they must do well on standardized tests.  For that reason, we provide test prep for the PSAT, ACT, and SAT.  Dr. Fithian, who received a Ph.D. in education from William & Mary, is our college planner for the upper years.  She guides them throughout the application process, helping them to choose the right college and put together the most competitive applications.
